A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an infection caused by bacteria in the urinary system. It can occur in the kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra. However, most UTIs stay in the bladder. Urinalysis testing will look for evidence of infection, as in bacteria and white blood cells.
