Oxymorphone (sold under the brand names Numorphan and Opana among others) is a highly potent opioid analgesic indicated for treatment of severe pain. Oxymorphone belongs to the group of medicines called narcotic analgesics (pain medicines). It acts in the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain.
Oxymorphone has a risk for abuse and addiction, which can lead to overdose and death. Oxymorphone may also cause severe, possibly fatal, breathing problems.
