Iron, TIBC, and Ferritin

Iron, TIBC, and Ferritin

Iron is an essential mineral needed to transport oxygen throughout your body via your red blood cells. If Iron levels get too low this can result in Iron deficiency anemia (decreased red blood cells). Fatigue, shortness of breath, headaches, hair loss, and other symptoms may be experienced. The Total Iron test measures the amount of Iron in the blood, while the TIBC test measures the blood’s capacity to carry Iron. Ferritin is a blood protein that contains Iron, this test helps provide information on how much Iron your body is storing. This test does not require fasting.
