COVID-19 Updates

Coronavirus Disease 2019 or COVID-19 (formerly known as 2019-nCoV) is the name for the respiratory syndrome caused by infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).

NextGen Laboratories has the highest standards of infection control precautions and continues to take additional steps to help protect our employees and medical providers. NextGen Laboratories is closely monitoring the ever-changing situation. Our top priority is the health and safety of our employees, health care providers and the communities that we live in and serve.
NextGen Laboratories we continue to provide all our testing services to our medical providers. We will continue to process all specimens collected.

Patients under investigation of COVID-19 and seeking evaluation of the disease will not be collected by NextGen Phlebotomists. Specimen should be collected at physician offices, hospitals or other clinic settings. As of March 13, the CDC recommends collecting only the upper respiratory nasopharyngeal (NP) swab and immediately place in 2-3 mL of viral transport media. Refrigerate specimen at 2-8° C. Label with patient name. Place in specimen bag, next place the bag into another clean bag, label with “COVID-19” and submit to laboratory. If shipping via FedEx, use the Clinical FedEx shipping with the UN label and overnight shipping.

We are doing everything we can do protect our employees and our customers. While there are many unknowns, one thing we do know is that an effective way to slow down or stop the spread of all viruses is to use proven hand washing methods. CDC is responding to a pandemic of respiratory disease spreading from person-to-person caused by a novel (new) coronavirus. The disease has been named “coronavirus disease 2019” (abbreviated “COVID-19”). This situation poses a serious public health risk. The federal government is working closely with state, local, tribal, and territorial partners, as well as public health partners, to respond to this situation. NextGen Labs is one of those health partners, we are currently testing for COVID-19 with a turn around time of 72 hours for results. We are also performing Respiratory Panels which we are able to report in as little as 24hrs.

Since Respiratory pathogens panels are used primarily for people who are seriously ill, hospitalized, and/or are at an increased risk for a severe infection with complications or multiple infections at the same time (co-infection). Our current BioFire RP PCR Panel includes most targets (22) that cause respiratory sickness, mostly important includes Coronavirus 229E, Coronavirus HKU1, Coronavirus NL63, and Coronavirus OC43.
